MASTER JUBA

"the story of artistic exploitation foiled and adversity defeated - all told with panache" -  David Porter, Eastern Daily Press

Master Juba was our first production and is a co-produced with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People's Theatre.

Based on the real life story of William Henry Lane, a brilliant, young, black dancer of freed slave heritage, brought to London by PT Barnum in 1848 to dance, as “Master Juba”, for Queen Victoria. Elevated to stardom by Charles Dickens, Juba Throws down the gauntlet in a bid to become the ‘champion dancer of the world’.
