Despite the ongoing success of these youth theatres we wanted to be able to offer a little more to young people in our area, particularly those who haven’t had access to the arts. We also wanted to show that the arts and sport aren’t that much different.

We approached the Football Club, which runs its own participatory projects to work together with us to create opportunities for young people in our community to create a production about the beautiful game. We are hoping to work with lots of young people in the town from those who are interested in writing, singing and performing to those who are passionate about football. Using the stories from Watford’s aspirant young footballers and seasoned professionals, the project will explore the issues around those, boys and girls, who dream of a life in football. The material and research will come from the participants, who will help shape the project and will be able to perform in the final production.

This project will combine the process of bringing together the disciplines and interests of people from both sport and the arts. This will be the first collaboration of its kind in Watford and Hertfordshire and will be instrumental in establishing and developing partnerships with key local and regional cultural and sporting organisations.
