Praise at the conference went to the successful creation of new DCSF Centres for Advanced Training for music and dance. Assis Carreiro, Artistic Director of DanceEast commented such initiatives form ‘the golden seed that can make a difference’. By working from grass roots upwards young regional talent is sought out much to the benefit of young people from deprived communities and those hard to reach. With a premise to go out and seek young talent such initiatives strike the same tune as that practiced here at THEATRE IS... By utilising the popular art form of hip hop we can also engage with the new technologies that seem almost second nature to this outward looking art form; if you haven’t made it yet to a live It’s Our Theatre Slam Night we hope to see you at the Weston Auditorium, Hatfield onthe 1st April. As Suzie Elkins blog for The Stage points out the popularity of hip hop is the unique selling point and mark of Theatre Is… success as we continue to work with young people.
