We’ve been consulting all the different communities we engage with and this has led to a number of new programmes and the revision or absorption of some old ones. We now have a brand new plan of activity which runs until 2011.
In delivering this plan we are providing the right opportunity for everyone. However we need to exploit our potential as an enabler in changing perception and in raising aspiration. We will prioritise work with the most disadvantaged, with a particular focus on work with young people, using the arts as a catalyst to develop creativity, to celebrate identity and to explore difference.
It is this shared value that has drawn me to THEATRE IS…Finding the creative potential in all of our young people throughout the East of England is vital. It’s about confidence, its about creating new ideas, its about talent.
Like THEATRE IS… we are developing as a creative force dedicated to understanding, reflecting and responding through theatre to the needs of our various communities. To do this we cannot afford to react cautiously in pursuing our aims, we must be proactive, taking risks and being bold.
We have begun by forming a new Young Company and presenting the premiere of David Grieg’s’ Award Winning play for young people Yellow Moon. As the Associate Director at the New Wolsey I am really excited about the potential of our Creative Learning initiatives and look forward to working with THEATRE IS…not just as a trustee but also as a practitioner.
Editor note: For a fascinating insight into Creative Learning read Sir Ken Robinson's new book The Element.
