Jonathan Meth discusses the great contribution to British theatre from our friend, the late Noel Greig.
Noel Greig has died, after a long illness borne with fortitude and grace. Noel is for me an unsung hero of British theatre who worked not only as an artist of considerable calibre, but also as a fantastic enabler of talent, especially young talent.
Noel worked in theatre since 1966, as an actor, playwright, director and dramaturg. He taught on a regular basis in schools and colleges, universities and on special courses. He had many strong associations with key theatre companies including Gay Sweatshop, Theatre Centre, The Royal Court, The Birmingham Rep and Contact Theatre’s Contacting The World.
Noel regularly worked abroad to create work which linked groups of young people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. For example, a long-range ‘twinning’ between a school in Nottingham, UK, and a school in Singapore, resulting in a shared written text which was then produced in both schools. Article Continues>
