So, Heritage Manager Helga Brandt and I have developed a Young People’s Tour aimed at Key Stage 2 which combines an interactive trip around the building with activities to put the Theatre in its historical context. Visitors get a chance to throw ‘rotten fruit’ at a bad actor, to become Georgian playgoers getting ‘spotted’ in the stage boxes, to play a through-the-ages game of spot-the-difference from the stage and to become mini-experts in aspects of historical highlights of the time.
My cunning plan is to start getting West Suffolk schools to put the Georgian era – a hotbed of radical thinking complete with Romantic poets, a turn-round in science and the birth of the industrial revolution - onto their curriculum and invite them into the Theatre Royal to take it over for an afternoon. Now all I need now is the fruit… E-mail Lynn Here
