it's our theatre: Thurrock

After 18 months of meetings, fundraising and research it’s our theatre Thurrock begins. We are excited by the prospect. We are under no illusions as to the challenge we have set ourselves but also clear as to the opportunities from  working alongside the visionary leadership of Terry Hammond and Anne Farrell at Thurrock Council.

it’s our theatre (IOT) is a 3 year long model designed to develop the next generation of creative entrepreneurs and artistic leaders. The ‘how’ we do this is well documented. However the outcomes and future of the work is not so well known. Partly this is because the original pilot in North Norfolk was for one year. We had no way of knowing what the outcomes would be, now we do: a new enterprise set up by young people called Encore which produces its own cultural events for young people in North Norfolk; Bradley Cooney in Great Yarmouth is being supported to create a nightclub event for 16 - 19 year olds called SLAM! where the young people can be wowed by up and coming local acts and industry professionals and take part in free workshops. Bradley is exactly the sort of young entrepreneur which we hope to develop in Thurrock. Also part of it’s our theatre Norfolk is Tom Povey; Tom, aka Intensity, is rapidly becoming one of the East of England’s best young Beat Boxers, recently appearing on stage with one of the UK’s premier Hip Hop artists, Sway.
