Emma is a visual artist who studied at Goldsmiths and Hornsey, Middlesex.  Impportantly for this project Emma is a parent of 3 children between 17 and 6, Emma's middle child, 14, is profoundly autistic and non-verbal. Emma runs a Local Authority funded home based education programme for him synthesising the best for him so that he can be happy.  Visit: www.emmawithers.co.uk for more informaiton.

Emma had the following to say about the project:
"What I felt was unique about the Apple Cart experience was the combination of 3 different things.
1.  working in a hydrotherapy pool with the wonderful Oily Cart team and other team members.
2.   working in a really free way with a group of artists from a variety of art forms.
3.   making the focus of the whole experience the idea of connecting with people who are remote from the rest of  us because of autism or a lack of spoken language.

It was this combination of people, actions and overall purpose which made my experience so rewarding and inspiring to me as an artist and parent of an autistic boy. The intent is also so in tune with our project 'Weather and Root' , looking to establish a creative centre which would include profoundly autistic adults with critical needs."
